Stewart McSweyn has recorded the biggest win of his career, taking out the prestigious Emsley Carr Mile at the Birmingham Diamond League in a personal best time of 3:54.60.
It was a super result for Australia, with fellow Melbourne Track Club members Ryan Gregson finishing second (3:55.10) and Jordy Williamsz sixth (3:56.92). The time has moved Stewy up to equal 9th on the World rankings for 2018 and 11th on the Australian All Time list.
The Emsley Carr Mile has a rich history, commencing in 1953, the event has been won by seven athletes who have held the world record for the Mile plus eleven Olympic Champions. Stewy's name is now preserved as a winner of the event alongside the likes of Kip Keino, Steve Ovett, Murray Halberg, John Walker, Sebastian Coe, Saïd Aouita, William Tanui, Vénuste Niyongabo, Haile Gebrselassie, Asbel Kiprop and current WR holder Hicham El Guerrouj.
