International Championship Events

Commonwealth Games 4 – 15 April 2018

The 2018 Commonwealth Gameswill be held on the Gold Coast (Qld) on 4-15 April 2018. 

Four members of UTAS Athletics CLub have already achieved the qualification standards for the games, with the selection trials being held as part of the Australian Open Championships, 15 – 18 February.

World Para Athletics Championships 14 – 23 July 2017

The 2017 World Para-Athletics Championships launch a summer of athletics in London (GBR) next month and Team Australia will be there with 37 athletes taking to the field of play at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park from 14-23 July 2017.

World Junior Para Athletics Championships 3 – 6 August 2017

The Inaugural World Junior Para Athletics Championships will be held in Nottwil Switzerland from the 3 – 6 August.

UTAS Athletics Clubs Samuel Walker will be competing for team Australia, Samuel will be running in the T38 U18 100m on Saturday 5 August.

Sam was selected following his win in the U16 event at the Australian Junior Championships, where he ran 12.48 and set a new Australian Record in the event.

IAAF World Championships 4 – 13 August 2017

Five years after the 2012 Olympics, the athletics world is ready once again to focus on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Stadium for the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London from 4 – 13 August.

UTAS members Hamish Peacock (Javelin) Stewart McSweyn (3000m Steeple) & Josh Harris (Marathon) will be wearing the Green & Gold for team Australia, with Josh & Stewart making their World Championships debut.  The London being the thrid World Championships appearance for Hamish, having competing in Moscow (2013) and Beijing (2015).

Event times as follows (Tasmanian time)

Stewart McSweyn – Steeple. Sunday 6 August 7:05pm 

Josh Harris – Marathon, Sunday 6 August 7:55pm

Hamish Peacock – Javelin, qualifying Friday 11 August 4:05am/5:35am (pending qualifyuing pool).  Final 5:15am 13 August.

World University Games 23 – 30 August 2017

The Summer Universiade is the world’s second largest international athletic event, double the size of the Winter Olympics and bigger than the Commonwealth Games.

UTAS member Dylan Evans will be making his debut in the Green & Gold in Taipei, having qualified for the Half Marathon with his 4th place finish in the Australian/Oceania Champinships.  Dylan enters the event with a best of 1:06.7.

Dylan competes on 27 August at 9:50am (Tas time).  Links to results/live streaming will be avaiable closer to the event.
